Cruise passenger evacuated after presenting symptoms of malaria in Isla Mujeres

Cancún, QRoo.- After presenting malaria symptomsa passenger from India had to be evacuated from the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Harmony of the Seas when it was sailing off the coast of Isla Mujeres.

The maneuver was carried out by personnel from the Ministry of the Navy, through the Mexican Navy with support from the Fifth Naval Region, which carried out the high-priority medical evacuation 35 minutes from Isla Mujeres, after an emergency call issued by the Chief Officer of the cruise ship.

The report stated that a male passengerof Indian nationality, presented a delicate clinical condition, with a diagnosis of malaria, high fever and low platelet levels, which made his immediate transfer to a hospital on land essential.

The patient was transferred from the cruise ship to Puerto Juárez, Quintana Roo, where he was received by an ambulance for immediate transfer to a local hospital to receive specialized medical care.

The Harmony of the Seas is a deep-draft ship that frequently makes routes through the Mexican Caribbean. This evacuation joins other reports of medical emergencies in the area, highlighting the prompt response of the Mexican Navy in support of maritime security.
