The triumph of Rejection in the constitutional plebiscite this past Sunday continues to generate reactions from different sectors of society in the face of the uncertainty of carrying out a new constitutional process to draft a new proposal for a new Constitution.
In this scenario, the Council of Rectors and Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH) through a statement referred to what was experienced this Sunday in the organization and subsequent result of the constitutional plebiscite, as well as a possible constituent process.

First of all, CRUCH sends its congratulations to the Electoral Service (Servel) for delivering the results in a timely manner, avoiding possible scenarios of uncertainty. Likewise, they highlight the high citizen participation in this plebiscite, which was close to 85.7% of the electoral roll.
On a second point, the rectors of the national universities understand that the triumph of Rejection is the sovereign will of the citizenry, although they believe that “It is essential to agree on a new Magna Carta that allows us to better face the current demands in our society”.
“After the result of Sunday, September 4, the institutions and the various social and political actors must learn about how to build broad consensus that responds to the political, social and economic requirements and challenges of the present and future. For this reason, We call for the civic responsibility of all sectors to dialogue and act with generosity and high-mindedness, with the well-being of society and people as our goal. It is time to act with cohesion and unity of purpose”, they complement.
In that line, and as a third point, the CRUCH “considers it an institutional duty to be part of this dialogue”, so they make themselves available to the country to initiate a new constitutional proposal, committing their institutional spaces and resources, added to the opening of “spaces for dialogue in the most diverse spheres and from all the territories of the country.
