Pedro Bordaberry, the former senator from Colorado, harshly criticized Foreign Minister Francisco Bustillo and the leadership of the Colorado Ciudadanos party. In a column published in the newspaper The country el domingo, titled “The new daffodils”, refers to the Marset case, in which a drug trafficker known as Sebastián Marset received a passport while in prison and is now a fugitive.
Bordaberry argues that the chancellor and the leaders of the Ciudadanos sector, of the Colorado Party, have been hypocritical in condemning former vice chancellor Carolina Ache, who recently resigned after chats between her and the number two of the Interior, Guillermo Maciel, were revealed in the that Maciel warned her about the danger of Marset. The former senator maintains that the party leaders are focused on keeping their positions and not on political ethics.
For the former presidential candidate from Colorado, those of Ciudadanos “meet to develop strategies that allow them to renew their positions every five years.” “As if it were a table game, they make calculations, talk about candidacies for the elections and condemn those who are not sure they will be on their side. They will end up like Narcissus himself who looked at himself so much in the reflecting pool that he finally fell into it,” he added.
Citizens Reaction
This did not go down well with the ears of the red group that was once led by former presidential candidate -and former foreign minister- Ernesto Talvi. The leaders argued that Bordaberry’s reasoning is complex, since she acknowledges that former Vice Chancellor Carolina Ache made a mistake by not reporting her contacts with Guillermo Maciel. And in this sense, the leaders consulted by the newspaper stated that Foreign Minister Bustillo is not part of the red ranks to evaluate his actions. “If others from other communities acted badly from an ethical point of view, we are not the ones who are going to apply the sanctions,” said one of those consulted.
In addition, the sources consulted indicated that Bordaberry’s criticisms not only point to the inmate of the Colorado Party, but also to the Executive Tower. However, they did not provide further details on the discrepancies between Bordaberry and the government.
