The reactions to the redistribution of parliamentary seats announced this Wednesday by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) add up. Legislators from Chuquisaca warn that they will not allow the application of a “fraudulent census”; while those from Santa Cruz assure that they have nothing to celebrate. For their part, the MAS bench maintains that this should not be a cause of controversy or difference between regions.

This Wednesday morning, The TSE confirmed that the department of Santa Cruz gained one parliamentary seat, while Chuquisaca lost one. With this modification, the electoral body will send the bill for the new redistribution of parliamentary seats to the Legislature this day.

In this regard, the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Israel Huaytari, stated that this new distribution “It will affect some departments, but nevertheless, we cannot create a means of conflict at the national level.”

For his part, deputy Marcelo Pedraza maintained that “since there is no legitimacy of the Census results, it is not feasible to apply the redistribution of seats proposed by the TSE.

“As Chuquisaqueños we do not understand what loss of seats the Electoral Body is talking about, when the Census data has been questioned and as long as it does not have legitimacy, we are not going to allow its application,” the legislator warned.

In turn, deputy Jerges Mercado stated that this distribution “must be seen from the point of view that the laws and the Constitution must be applied; this should not generate any conflict. “Whoever has doubts and can do the corresponding INE audits, the doors are open.”.

While for Senator Henry Montero he said that “Bolivians are being deceived here, because they told us wrong. This Census is fraudulent. That is why we are going to bet on a transparent and clean Census in 2025. “We are not going to issue further criteria, nor are we going to celebrate in Santa Cruz because a seat was won.”

What’s more, the president of the Departmental Legislative Assembly, Antonio Talamás, He urged Santa Cruz parliamentarians not to allow this result to be consolidated.

“I call on our deputies and senators not to validate this census fraud that the national government intends. Just tomorrow, in the Departmental Assembly, we will have a plenary session in which we will address this issue and approve a resolution that we will send to the Brigade Parliamentary, since it is a national competence and it is in their hands not to allow this census fraud in the department of Santa Cruz,” said Talamás.
