At a press conference, Lustemberg highlighted that the meeting made it possible to obtain a “snapshot” of the main public health policies implemented and their impact, as well as to exchange on current situations in the health system.
Follow-up to the CASMU case
One of the topics addressed was the situation of the mutual society CASMU. Lustemberg assured that the minister and the authorities of the General Directorate of Health Providers were consulted about the measures adopted. As indicated, it was confirmed that “monitoring is being carried out by interveners to guarantee that there is no impact on the quality of care of users.”
In relation to the decisions regarding the continuity of the CASMU authorities, Lustemberg stated that, for the moment, the actions taken are being analyzed and information is received. “The current responsibility for making decisions corresponds to the outgoing authorities, we are in an evaluation stage,” he stated.
Asked about possible discrepancies within the incoming team, in particular about statements by the designated undersecretary, Leonel Briozzo, in the sense that the intervention should add to the “displacement” of the current authorities of the mutual company, Lustemberg clarified that these reflect a personal position and do not a political definition. “Our opinion will be built together with the president-elect, Jamandú Orsi, and will be communicated when appropriate,” he stated.
Priority in quality of care
Lustemberg emphasized that the main objective is to ensure quality of care throughout the health system. “We convey peace of mind to citizens regarding the healthcare impacts. The current authorities have confirmed to us that they are monitoring and do not observe risks in this regard,” he assured.
The future minister announced that this Thursday the transition will continue with a new working meeting that will cover other areas of the portfolio, maintaining the focus on guaranteeing the continuity and strengthening of public health policies.
