The Vice President of Argentina, Cristina Fernández, thanked this Sunday the president-elect of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, for returning “joy and hope” to the region with his victory in the second round of the elections in the South American country.
“Today more than ever, love and much happiness. Thank you people of Brazil. Thank you, comrade Lula, for returning joy and hope to our South America,” the former president (2007-2015) wrote on her Twitter account after the victory of the former president of Brazil between 2003 and 2010 over the current president, Jair Bolsonaro.
In addition to the vice president, several members of the Alberto Fernández Executive expressed their joy at Lula’s victory.
Defense Minister Jorge Taiana commented on Twitter that “today South America begins to write a new chapter in its history” and recalled the judicial episodes experienced by former president Dilma Rousseff, who left power after an ‘impeachment’, and the Lula, who “they imprisoned, they used all the power of the State and they couldn’t.”
For his part, the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Daniel Filmus, published on that social network congratulating Lula “and the people of Brazil for this democratic election” in a message that he completed as follows: “Latin America united to advance towards development, justice, equality and dignity of our peoples!!».
The head of the Security portfolio, Aníbal Fernández, also published a photograph of the elected president, who “defeated Jair Bolsonaro and will be president of Brazil again.”
The progressive leader Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has 50.83% of the valid votes compared to 49.17% of the far-right Jair Bolsonaro, after 98.91% of the polling stations were counted, according to official data.
