Cristina received a committee of experts from the OAS in the Senate


the vice president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner received this Thursday in the Senate the Committee of Experts of the Follow-up Mechanism of the Convention of Belém do Pará (MESECVI) of the Organization of American States (OAS).

The meeting was held within the framework of the official visit of that committee to the country to address violence against women, reported the Press Office of the Upper House.

“In those pronouncements, as a committee that monitors the Belén do Pará conventionwe have offered technical assistance to the different States and we are very grateful that the State of Argentina has accepted this offer of technical assistance“, he added.

In a brief contact with the press, he remarked that there were meetings with “different instances of the Legislative and Judicial Branch,” as well as with the Executive Branch to “listen to what the advances are, but also the challenges and obstacles in this matter”.

“We have also met in an important way with those who have suffered situations of political violence in different areas of the public space,” he said.

The work in the country, Alegre clarified, “has not finished yet”, so tomorrow “some preliminary recommendations”, before the final report which will be presented in the coming weeks.

The delegation is headed by its president, Huaita Alegre, from Peru, and made up of Leila Linhares Barstedfrom Brazil; Lourdes Montero Justinianofrom Bolivia, and Sylvia Mesa Peluffofrom Costa Rica.

It is also made up of the technical secretary of the MESECVI, Luz Patricia Mejia Guerreroand the person in charge of communication, Tatiana Bensa.

The Inter-American Convention to Prevent, Punish and Eradicate Violence against Women was adopted in Belém do Pará, Brazil, in 1994, formalizing the definition of violence against women, both in the public and private spheres, as a violation of their rights humans.

The Committee of Experts is the technical body of the MESECVI, responsible for the analysis and evaluation of the implementation process of the Convention.
