Crisis of political representation

Crisis of political representation

Democracy implies that power comes from the people and can be exercised through political representatives. There is talk of the government of the citizenry through the rulers, who were elected through popular vote. But currently, there is a crisis of representativeness.

This situation occurs because the authorities have not responded to the needs and central problems of society. Right now there is a serious economic and social crisis. Inflation is hitting several Paraguayan families, mainly the most humble. Currently, in Paraguay there are more than 1,900,000 people living below the poverty line.

The representativeness crisis worsened for several reasons, but here we will cite the main ones: Some of the political parties are sold to the highest bidder, that is, they incorporate people with economic wealth into their ranks, regardless of the proposals or life history. So, the party becomes a commodity, which is at the service of people with money.

Similarly, there are no new leaderships. The parties do not invest in the preparation of new leaders or simply do not give opportunities to young people, who today feel very far from political actors.

Political parties are weakening because organized crime is entering their ranks, putting democracy in danger.

Similarly, in Paraguay the figure of caudillismo is still in force, which is a very common practice. Instead of having caudillos, work must be done to consolidate State institutions, so that they can function and respond to citizens.
