More than 1,700 HIV patients in Cúcuta were left without treatment due to millionaire debts owed by the New EPS to hospitals and IPS.

Aristídez Hernández, representative of the Asintraser Salud Norte union, told La FM that: “The New EPS currently has approximately 800 thousand users and Coopsalud has 350 thousand members. Today, more than 800 people are not receiving their cancer treatments and more than 2 thousand patients, For several weeks, they have not received the retrovirals or the controls that must be carried out with these catastrophic diseases.”

Likewise, the union leader pointed out that, unfortunately, the lives of these people deteriorate by suspending the respective treatments. “The necessary follow-up is not carried out, there is no agenda to be developed because there is no contracting due to non-payment of the New EPS and Coopsalud”he added.
“It is a constant lie on the part of the directors of the New EPS. The day the protest was held by the various unions in the health sector in Cúcuta, we received calls telling us that the disbursements of the resources would already be made. However, only 9 billion pesos arrived, which corresponds to the payment of 30% of the debt. that we have with the Erasmo Meoz Hospital,” Hernández pointed out.

Patients who are HIV positive expressed their concern about the cancellation of the delivery of retroviral medications by the IPS CDI. They assure that they do not have any information about the date of reactivation of their services.
For her part, Mrs. Sandra López told La FM that: “My chemotherapy treatment was canceled a month ago. I have breast cancer; Unfortunately, my health has worsened and, worst of all, uncertainty takes over because no one gives us the answer we need.”
