Criminologist analyzes why glass cleaners exist

Criminólogo analiza por qué existen los limpiavidrios

Young window cleaners could be a problem for society since they almost always come from broken homes where the streets offer solidarity and end up being victims of violence and where the strongest prevail over the weak, the largest over the smallest, according to the specialist in criminology, Wilfredo Mora.

“The life of a “window cleaner” is terrible, since many of them have not met their parents, and the problems they face cannot be explained by themselves,” said the educator.

In short, he stated that the glass cleaners are boys who are the result of homelessness, orphanhood, and abandonment by their relatives, according to the information they have.

He said that like all the boys on the streets, the tendency is for them to behave aggressively, with a “ragged” appearance, rude to deal with, and careless with adults.

Due to the circumstances that surround them, it is not uncommon for them to be thieves, vagabonds, rowdies and from the streets, because it is the place where they sleep, roam. So cleaning windows, seen like this, is more than a job: it is an act of resistance.

The professor reported that a few years ago the Attorney General’s Office proceeded to collect the window cleaners to remove them from the streets and when the parents went to look for their boys, some showed up with ties and others with borrowed shirts.

They gathered them in a room and gave them a talk. But one of the parents stopped him dead: “Are you going to give us something?” They explained that the only reason the boys are on the streets is to work, since they have no other way to survive.
