In the early hours of the morning, a robbery affected an Army military compound in Santiago, a few meters from the Justice Center. More than 50 weapons were stolen from inside the military institution’s premises, including 52 CZ 9-millimeter pistols, plus four private weapons, one of them taken from the director’s safe.
According to preliminary information, a group of individuals arrived at the scene indicating that they were going to look for the weapons, where minutes before a call had been received from a superior, who authorized their delivery. Therefore, more than 50 weapons were taken, delivered by the Army officials themselves.
After the fact, the institution noticed the absence of weapons and discovered that the call had not been made by the superior in question, so it proceeded to notify the Carabineros to alert about the situation. Police Major Gorka Verde pointed out that most of what was stolen were handguns that were not taxable, but rather came from abroad to be registered and then delivered to gun shops for sale.
From the Institute of Investigation and Control of the Army they reported that “a civilian employee of this institute, who is detained and giving a statement to Carabineros de Chile and the respective prosecutors, would have facilitated the theft and delivery of weapons to a criminal organization” .
“The facts were immediately denounced to the courts of justice, both in the Public Ministry, with the purpose of determining the responsibilities of civilian personnel in this serious crime, as well as in the Military Prosecutor’s Office in order to establish the possible participation of institutional personnel. “, they explained.
Along the same lines, they announced the beginning of a summary investigation, in order to determine the circumstances and administrative responsibilities of what happened.
