The man was taken to a hospital with two shots to the head, but died hours later.

A police officer killed a person who pointed a replica gun at him in a pursuit for an attempted robbery this Tuesday, reported the Montevideo Police Headquarters in a statement.
The authorities were warned this Tuesday night about a robbery in the cooperative December 1 (located in Camino Carrasco and Zum Felde) of the neighborhood Cross of Carrasco.
Personnel from the Unified Command Center (CCU) identified through the video surveillance cameras a 36-year-old man, initials MC, with three criminal records: robbery, domestic violence and especially aggravated theft.
From the CCU they notified the authorities where the man was moving, and an officer started chasing him. At one point in the chase the person involved brought “his hand to his abdomen” and “extracted a firearm with which he pointed it at the official”an act by which the police “He repelled the attack and fired two shots at it to neutralize the threat”detailed the Headquarters statement.

“In the place it is verified that the weapon used is a replica of a pistol-type firearm, remaining the same at the scene of the incident”, concluded the police report.
