Criminal network dedicated to extortion is dismantled in Bolívar from Cómbita prison in Boyacá

The authorities managed to identify and capture 12 members of this criminal structure, including two women.

In the last hours, authorities from the department of Bolívar reported on a joint operation between the National Police, the Military Gaula and the Attorney General’s Office, where they dismantled a dangerous criminal gang dedicated to extortion in the Montes de María region.

The organization, it seems, led from the Cómbita prison in Boyacáhad as a modus operandi making extortion calls to merchants, ranchers and citizens in general, posing as members of the Gulf Clan.

During eight months of research, called ‘Orion’, The authorities managed to identify and capture 12 members of this criminal structure, including two women. The detainees, who operated in the municipalities of El Carmen de Bolívar, San Juan Nepomuceno, El Guamo and San Jacinto, used various tactics to intimidate their victims and demand large sums of money.

According to investigations, this criminal gang generated monthly profits of up to $350 million pesos through its extortion activities. The criminals apparently used a digital ‘call center’ to make calls and intimidate their victims, who were forced to pay sums ranging between 1 and 20 million pesos.

Those captured were placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office, waiting for a judge of the Republic to define their judicial situation.

For its part, the National Police calls on citizens to report any case of extortion through line 165, remembering that paying these extortions does not guarantee the safety of the victims and, on the contrary, encourages the continuity of these activities. criminals.
