Santo Domingo. – The group Dominican of the International Association of Criminal Law (AIDP) announced its commitment to workar next to the National Congress and the country’s judicial instances to improve the new Criminal Code, before it enters into force in August next year.
The announcement was made during the AIDP Directive’s Surigting Act in the Dominican Republic, headed by Dr. Ricardo Rojas León as president.
They are accompanied by Ramón Emilio Núñez (Vice President), Luz Díaz Rodríguez (Treasurer), Emery Colomby Rodríguez (secretary) and the vowels Alejandro Mercedes Zorrilla, Eduardo Risk and Elio José Delgado.
Commitment to criminal reform
In his speech, Rojas León said that the entity will concentrate efforts to disseminate and train society around the new Criminal Code, in addition to providing proposals to strengthen its application.
“We are going to work intensely, Not only in dissemination and training Around the new Criminal Code, but we will continue to contribute, from various fields, to the improvement of this important piece for the country, ”he said.
The lawyer recalled that, in the most recent local assembly, three work commissions made up of AIDP members were formed, in order to contribute to the congressional rediscussion process of the regulations.
A transforming code
Rojas León stressed that the new criminal regulations represents a significant change for the criminal policy of the Dominican State.
“The new Criminal Code is a novel regulation, which has come to revolutionize the political-critical priorities of the Dominican State in matters of criminal prosecution, under the principle of legality and respect for the fundamental rights of people,” he said.
Work commissions
In the activity, carried out in the auditorium of the Faculty of Humanities of the APEC University, the formation of three commissions that will guide the work of the AIDP in the country:
- Dissemination of the Criminal Code: Coordinated by Alejandro Moscoso Segarra, with members Miguel Ernesto Valerio Jiminián and Luz Díaz Rodríguez.
- Proposals for reform and legislative improvements: Coordinated by José Ricardo Rojas León, along with Ramón Emilio Núñez and José Lorenzo Fermín Mejía.
- Jurisdictional debate: Coordinated by Pedro Virginio Balbuena Batista, accompanied by Juan de Jesús Santos Santos, Emery Colomby Rodríguez Mateo and Elio José Delgado Vales.
International Trajectory
AIDP was founded in 1924 in Paris, France, and is considered the most prestigious organization in the field of criminal law worldwide. It brings together criminal lawyers from more than 100 countries, including about twenty Dominican jurists who make up the local chapter.
