Attorney General Tarek William Saab described the death of the president of Cartones de Venezuela, Leoner Azuaje Urrea, as suicide, barely an hour after the body was found.

The death of the 39-year-old official was reported at 3:00 pm on Thursday in one of the cells of the Bolivarian Intelligence Service (Sebin), El Helicoide headquarters. An hour later, the Attorney General of the Republic -Tarek William Saab-, reported on social networks that the officer in custody “had committed suicide.”

“I have commissioned prosecutors 50 and 67 Nacional, to investigate the unfortunate suicide of citizen Leoner Azuaje Urrea in his place of confinement,” wrote on his account on the social network Twitter.

The remains were taken to the Bello Monte morgue at 5:00 pm, and the autopsy was carried out at night, in the presence of five prosecutors, who left the body after midnight. So far the causes of death are unknown.

Internal sources to the National Service of Medicine and Forensic Sciences (Senamecf), mentioned that Azuaje Urrea presented bruises in the middle and lower part of the abdomen, abrasions in the right intercostal region and forearms; in addition, signs of torture on the soles of the feet.

His relatives went to the Bello Monte morgue on Friday morning. The widow was accompanied by two relatives, and she refused to testify. They left the morgue at 11:58 am. At the end of this edition, it is unknown if the body was removed, since they had no contact with people who offer funeral services.

“He had two girls, whom he loved very much,” he was heard saying in a conversation between one of Azuaje Urrea’s relatives, with officials from the official area, in the Bello Monte morgue.

This death in custody occurred six days after the arrest, due to alleged administrative irregularities in the management of the state-owned Cartones de Venezuela.
