The International Affairs Prosecutor, Manuel Doldán, said that it will be necessary to review the security protocols for future movements of agents, in view of what happened with his colleague Marcelo Pecci in Colombia. Regarding the investigation of the crime, he stated that there are currently four lines of investigation.
When questioned about not establishing a communication by the Public Ministry or the Paraguayan State about Marcelo Pecci’s trip to Colombia, prosecutor Manuel Doldán pointed out that it is not usual to establish this type of protocol for the movement of an agent and in this case particular as it is a private activity (honeymoon).
“Security protocols are not applied when prosecutors travel to other countries, except for alerts from the prosecutor himself when he perceives some kind of danger,” Doldán said in an interview with the CNN channel.
He added that Pecci did not communicate much about his movements, since he handled himself with a lot of secrecy, to such an extent that Doldán found out that he was in Colombia, just at the moment of knowing about the attack.
However, he indicated that this fact will inevitably lead to changes in the security protocol for prosecutors and even judges. “This sad event is going to change the prosecutors’ roadmap, as well as the security issue for magistrates,” he specified.
Regarding Pecci’s murder, prosecutor Doldán maintained that parallel investigations are being carried out in Colombia and Paraguay, under four investigative lines. “We are not in a position to rule anything out. Everything is being investigated, all the causes that Marcelo was carrying and that are of transnational aspects, ”he stressed.
On the other hand, he stated that the wife of prosecutor Pecci, Claudia Aguilera, indicated to the authorities that her husband had not received any type of threat in recent times, as to attribute the fact to a specific situation.
