As in previous years, the main concerns of Dominicans are crime, the high cost of living and unemployment.
Others, on the contrary, see crime as the main problem of the nation. People aged 15 and over perceive these challenges for the authorities as the difficulties that affect the nation.
66.4% believe that it is crime, the cost of living, 54.1%, while 27.4% understand that unemployment is the main problem in the Dominican Republic.
This is how the basic report of the National Survey of Multipurpose Households of the Dominican Republic (Enhogar) 2022, which indicates that in the Santo Domingo province almost 80% of those surveyed considered that crime is the main problem.
The survey, which was conducted by National Statistics Office (ONE), details that insecurity, poverty, access to basic services, corruption, the sale and consumption of controlled substances, the lack of education and garbage are among the problems that affect the country, the opinions it collected the study.

“When analyzing the information By sex, there are no marked differences regarding the security measures used by the female and male population aged 15 and over to prevent robberies in their homes. According to socioeconomic level, it is observed that the main security measure used is the reinforcement of doors and windows, with 45.8% in the high group, and 20.4% in the very low group. 33.8% of the population between the ages of 45 and 54 have taken reinforcement of doors and windows as a security measure in their homes, while 30.5% belonging to the ages of 15-24 have opted for same decision”, indicates the study report.
Besides, home 2022 establishes that only 39.59% is the proportion of the population that feels safe walking alone through the area where they live after dark.
