The Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, Ángel Manero, reported that the creation of a special economic zone for the Chancay megaport It would be announced this week in the middle of the APEC FORUM.
In that sense, he defended the importance of this measure, which he considered will leave Peruvians quite satisfied.
This Thursday the 14th, the Port of Chancay will be inaugurated, marking the beginning of the development of Peru as a logistics center in South America.
The president of the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL), Roberto De La Torre, highlighted the need to have a regulatory framework for the Special Economic Zones (SEZ) in the country, pointing out that these spaces are essential to attract investments.
The vote to have a regulatory framework for the Special Private Economic Zones (ZEEP) is still pending in Congress, and although there is a sector of the left that does not want this proposal to continue, for the professor at the University of the Pacific, Mercedes Aráoz, this is an opportunity to attract greater investment. This is what he said to Peru21.
NO VIOLENCE
Regarding the protests during APEC, Manero was emphatic: “Peru is an adolescent country, everyone wants to do whatever they want. Road blockades or any violent marches will not be allowed.”
When asked about the low popularity ratings of President Dina Boluarte, Manero considered that management has a high component of discipline and order.
Manero highlighted that APEC offers a range of opportunities that we must take advantage of: “Today we launched with the Foreign Ministry the international call for Majes, an important and dreamed project of Arequipa. It is to rehabilitate Majes I, build an intermediate dam and the most important thing is to leave the road ready for Majes II”.
According to him, 17 countries will be invited to compete for this investment.
“What we are playing for this week is tremendously important for the country”said the head of Agriculture, after listing a series of projects that are underway.
“Peru remains attractive,” Manero stated, after announcing that this November 15, the largest water company in Portugal has requested a meeting with the government to participate in the country’s large projects, such as the clearing of Poechos, in Piura.
This is Mota-Engil, which stands out in the engineering and construction sectors. It was founded in 1946 and has expanded its operations internationally, with a presence in Europe, Africa and Latin America. The company is among the 30 largest construction companies in Europe, consolidating its position in the global market.
MORE JOBS
The head of the sector stressed that agro-exports in Peru will become an important source of employment. “With the expansion of the agricultural frontier, with what Chancay and APEC represent, we are talking about agro-exports can grow three or four times, which means growing between 3 or 4 million jobs, obviously this will be in 10 years or more “.
