Crazy or geniuses?

Many artists were misunderstood at the beginning of their careers and the novelty of their work was taken as a daring move or, perhaps, a boldness that few understood at the time. For some, creativity paid a high price by being labeled as insane and it was not until the end that they were recognized for the transcendence they never had in life.

Art is so subjective that what may have originally been unintelligible strokes or expressions lacking value, later became a prodigious result, appreciated centuries later by experts who considered it so. Sometimes, a rebellious collector who made the creation public or perhaps a patron who supported it financially was enough to make it transcend time and space.

Taste is as particular as it is varied and the permanence of a manager who later achieves worldwide fame will depend on the coincidence in the preference of a certain group with a criterion that is sufficiently respected to give it credit and judge it valuable because beauty, in addition to being relative, is not always so evident, even for connoisseurs.

Van Gogh was confined in the mental asylum where he created the best of his pictography and given his condition, a yellow color that still causes a furor among specialists on the subject. Frida Kahlo was an eccentric woman who lived in the shadow of her famous husband, however, her colorful paintings have surpassed the times with their peculiar style that reflected her own sufferings. It is said that Albert Einstein was an isolated child who did not speak until he was 3 years old, so they came to think that he had some mental problem, and then he became the most prominent scientist of the 20th century. There was such distrust in the adventures of Christopher Columbus that only convicts dared to accompany him, heading to an unknown destination that later turned out to be one of the most transcendental discoveries in history. Juan Pablo Duarte, noted as an idealist, was the founder of our country with thoughts that are still valid.

Yesterday’s madness is today’s genius, as will be today’s misfits. Sometimes, being different takes its toll, it’s a shame that the reward is not received by those who deserve it because they were never appreciated at the right time and it is others who get the glory. Ironies of life.
