Crack the Code launches free video game creation contest to combat bullying

The initiative seeks to enable students to give greater relevance to the fight against in our country since, according to figures from the Ministry of Education (Minedu), until April, 874 cases of violence against students from public and private schools were reported, higher than 2021 (769) and 2020 (756).

We want parents and children to become aware of this serious problem. Therefore, the participants will have to create their own characters, villains, obstacles to overcome, and a plot of their video game based on bullying. Through the GameMaker platform, they will be able to channel reflections on this topic while creating technology and having fun” points out María del Mar Vélez, founder and CEO of Crack the Code.

How to sign up?

There are two types of registration: directly, which is free and is aimed at those who master some basic programming principles, in addition to knowing how to use the Game Maker tool. The other modality will be through enrollment in a practical workshop that lasts two months in which students will be trained in video game programming.

The contest is divided into two categories: juniors, for children from 9 to 12 years old, and teens, from 13 to 16 years old. Thanks to the sponsorship of Lenovo, the first three places in each category may be awarded a laptop, a tablet or a full scholarship for a Crack the Code course, respectively.

“Free entries to the contest are open from September 1 to November 30. Children and young people interested in attending the courses may register until October 11. The contestants will live a unique experience transcending the barriers of attendance and will share their passion with ‘coders’ from other countries” specifies María del Mar Vélez.
