The Mixed Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) that investigates the illegal discounts of beneficiaries of the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) will hear Antonio Carlos Camilo Antunes, known as Bald of the INSS, next Thursday (25). The information was confirmed on Monday (22) by the president of the board, Senator Carlos Viana (Somos-MG).
“His presence is confirmed on Thursday, and I hope, with sincerity, that the deal was fulfilled that was made,” said Viana, who said he talked to the defense of the investigated about the trip to the board.
Initially, The testimony at CPMI was scheduled to take place last Monday (15). After the decision of the Supreme Court Minister (STF), André Mendonça, that the trip to the commission was optional, the defense reported that he would not attend.
This Monday, the board heard the testimony of businessman Rubens Oliveira Costa, named as another member of Antonio Carlos Antunes. Oliveira Costa was summoned to testify as a witness to the board, but a habeas corpus (HC) granted by the Federal Supreme Court Minister, Luiz Fux, gave the right of Oliveira Costa not being required to answer questions that could incriminate him.
Habeas Corpus also prevents possible arrest order if the deponent opts for silence during the statement. Before starting the hearing, Oliveira Costa read a document stating that he left the position of financial officer of Antunes companies, including Venus Consultoria, in early 2024, before being aware of the existence of criminal investigations involving his name.
Oliveira Costa also said that he did not order or participated in the payment of bribes and denied that he was a partner of Antonio Camilo Antunes in any company.
“I was never a partner of any business alongside Antonio Camilo. I worked only in four of his companies, in the role of financial administrator, and nothing more,” he said. “I do not know why reports, investigations or inquiries point to me as partners of some of the companies investigated. Perhaps, this is due to the fact that I have figured as a financial administrator in the social statutes. I repeat, I was never a partner of any company with Mr. Antonio,” he concluded, before the beginning of CPMI members’ questions.
