The new president of the Council for Transparency, Francisco Leturiadescribed as “extremely serious” the recent violation of data committed by the Electoral Service (Servel) and indicated that they will officiate the body.
Servel acknowledged on Thursday night that it had mistakenly uploaded a file that contained data on nearly 15 million people. Specifically, the document -as revealed Cyper Y Third– had the RUT, political militancy, belonging to indigenous peoples, and whether or not the individual voted in the 2021 municipal elections.
“It is extremely serious that some such sensitive information about people is made public, such as their political militancy, because this can mean discrimination, harassment and persecution,” Leturia said in conversation with Third.
He added that the Council “is going to order Servel to give us explanations” about the data breach.
“This situation of vulnerability of private data shows the improvements and adjustments that our legal system requires, because with the current legislation these situations could continue to occur without any sanction,” continued Leturia.
Servel has already mandated an investigation into the data breach.
