MADRID, Spain.- The United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) made the CBP One application available to migrants who seek asylum at the southern border of the United States and have the humanitarian exception to the Title 42. Those who do not meet this requirement and try to enter the northern country without the proper documents will continue to be expelled.
Appointments will be available from next January 12 and the first ones will be from January 18. New available appointments will be published each day at 9:00 am and will be granted for the following 14 days.
as explained CNN, the app has been around since 2020, and so far allowed migrants to submit their travel information in advance before crossing the US border; but as of this January 12, “it will allow thousands of migrants who are stranded at the southern border of the United States for not having the corresponding documents to enter the country, to schedule appointments to request asylum in that country based on a humanitarian exception to Title 42 at certain land ports of entry.”
according to a release from the CPB, the ports of entry available for Texas appointments are Brownsville, Eagle Pass, Hidalgo, Laredo, and El Paso; Nogales in Arizona; as well as Calexico West and San Ysidro in California.
The CPB also specified that the application, available on the App Store and on Google Play, with versions in English and Spanish, is only for migrants who are in central and northern Mexico.
According to the entity, “CBP One will streamline the experience at the port of entry, can reduce wait times, and allows a safe and orderly process for ports of entry and all travelers.”
According to the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Alejandro Mayorkas, quoted by CNN“the app is designed to discourage people from congregating near the border and creating unsafe conditions.”
