Meanwhile, only eight entities are above 2 percent of spaces with critical patients. who require mechanical ventilation, according to information from the Serious Respiratory Disease Surveillance System (Sisver) of the Ministry of Health (Ssa).

It also highlights that in the sixth wave of SARS-CoV-2 infections, which began eight weeks ago, the BQ.1 subvariant predominates, popularly known as Hellhound. This derives from omicron and is transmitted more easily, but it does not cause serious pictures in people with complete vaccination and booster schedules.

Hence, although the confirmed cases tripled in the recent month, only 7 percent of hospital admissions in general beds are registered as an average in the country.

In 12 states, hospitals report low demand for admissions. Yucatán and Chiapas stand out, with less than 2 percent, Campeche is less than one, and in the hospitals of Tlaxcala and Nayarit there are no patients.

Regarding the monitoring of SARS-CoV-2 variants, the Ssa mentions that as of December 19, 80,610 genetic sequences have been obtained in Mexico, which were deposited on the Gisaid international platform. In this, genomic surveillance of influenza viruses is also carried out.

For the coronavirus, the variant that predominates in this season of infections is omicron and in particular its subvariant BQ.1.

According to the Ssa report, with information cut off on December 19, the presence of this subvariant is increasing, since it went from 48 to 61 percent between weeks 47 (from November 20 to 26) and 48 (from November 27). from November to December 3) in samples genetically sequenced in different educational and health institutions in the country.
