The city of São Paulo identified the third case of a person contaminated with the BA.2 subvariant of the coronavirus. The patient is a 45-year-old man, a resident of Ferraz de Vasconcelos, in Greater São Paulo, who was treated in the health system of the capital of São Paulo.
The identification was made last Friday (18) by the Municipal Health Department in partnership with the Butantan Institute from the genomic analysis of the virus. BA.2 emerged from mutations of the ômicron variant (BA.1).
The man had already received three doses of vaccines against covid-19 and had symptoms on January 30. He spent 14 days in quarantine and has no further signs of illness.
