The start of the school year, in person, has caused Covid-19 to spread in various educational centers in the country, infecting students, administrators and teachers.
In a meeting held on the morning of this Monday, May 9, by the Minister of Education and the Minister of Health; Maruja Gorday de Villalobos and Luis Francisco Sucre, respectively, gave a report on the cases that have been reported in schools nationwide.
Gorda and de Villalobos said that to date a total of 1,243 infections have been registered in schools, of which 40% correspond to students, teachers and administrators. She detailed that the main focus is on teenage students and middle school groups.
“Today we strengthen ourselves once again as a team to follow up on what the regional Covid school committees are doing and evaluate what regional directors, such as those from Minsa and Meduca, are doing in applying biosafety protocols in schools. and be aware of any requirement”, said Minister Gorday de Villalobos
For his part, the Minister of Health Luis Francisco Sucre assured that, despite this number of cases and the increase that has been registered in recent weeks, the possibility of closing the schools has not been evaluated, however; he said that they will make decisions in some educational centers according to the indicators in the number of cases
He indicated that “extra tasks” will be implemented to provide greater security to educators and students.
“Those students who present some type of respiratory symptoms, no matter how slight, such as a runny nose, sore throat, etc., should not attend classes; It must also be reported so that the swab test can be carried out and not put the rest of the campus at risk,” said Sucre.
