The Social Health Security (EsSalud) reported that -in epidemiological week (EW) 28- 4,850 new coronavirus infections (COVID-19) were registered in adolescents aged 12 to 17, which represents an increase of 86.7% compared to what was reported in the previous week that had 2,598 cases.
Other age group that registered an increase in cases is that of children from 0 to 11 years which went from 1,785 cases (SE-27), to having 3,055 new infections in the last week (+71.1%).
According to the executive president of EsSalud, Gino Dávila Herrera, both groups register low percentages of vaccination against the coronavirus. In the case of children, only 55.4% have 2 doses, while in adolescents from 12 to 17 years old the figure is 26.2% at the country level, according to the Single Repository of the Ministry of Health (Minsa).

In the case of adults aged 30 to 59, 3,5361 new infections were reported, a figure that exceeds the 23,560 infected registered in the previous week (+50.1%).
Additionally, it was identified that in the age groups that make up young adults (18 to 29 years old) and older adults (60 years and older), an increase in COVID-19 cases was reported, reaching 38% and 50.5%, respectively.
While, In epidemiological week 28, 65,166 new cases of COVID-19 were reported, of which 37,339 are women and 27,827 men.
Cases increase in Lima and regions
Cases also increased in 37 districts of Metropolitan Lima, such as Cercado de Lima (2,689), Jesús María (1,804), Magdalena del Mar (1,365), San Borja (1,246), San Juan de Lurigancho (1,259) and San Martín de Porres. (1,091).
Meanwhile, in the interior of the country, there was an increase in confirmed cases of coronavirus in 25 regions, being Lima and Arequipa are the jurisdictions that report the highest increase with 29,168 and 8,344 infections, respectively.
The positivity of coronavirus cases also increased in 165 provinces of the country, as is the case of Abancay (+533%), followed by Tambopata (+384%), Coronel Portillo (+314%), Maynas (+244%), Huamanga (+200%), Jaén (+198%) Huancayo (+135%), Huaura (+107%), among others.
