Court sentenced former mayor of San Cristóbal Daniel Ceballos to four years in prison

The Trial Court 15 of the Caracas Metropolitan Area sentenced the former mayor of San Cristóbal Daniel Ceballos to four years and three months in prison for the alleged crime of public incitement. The Coalition assured that the former mayor has served almost the entire sentence imposed. The trial against Ceballos was reopened in June 2022. He was accused of instigating the closure of streets and avenues in his town during the cycle of anti-government protests known as “La Salida”, which began in February 2014.

Ceballos denounced the delays in the judicial process and assured that he had paid four years and five months in jail for that trial. He highlighted that in a second process opened by the Supreme Court of Justice, he was sentenced for another year in prison, which he assures that he has already paid.

On March 19, 2014, Daniel Ceballos was arbitrarily apprehended in the city of Caracas, initially detained at the Sebin headquarters in El Helicoide and later transferred to the National Center for Military Prosecutors (Cenapromil) Los Teques, better known as the Los Teques prison. of Ramo Verde, in Miranda state.

That same year he was sentenced by the Supreme Court of Justice to one year in jail. However, he was imprisoned for four years and five months. He was released by the “truth commission” of the extinct constituent assembly at the end of 2018 under precautionary measures, with a presentation regime every 30 days.

In January 2022, he decided to support the candidacy of Claudio Fermín for the Governorship of Barinas and then decided to join the Voluntad Popular party, which was prosecuted and whose symbols were handed over to José Noriega, designated as an alleged “scorpion” by the 2015 National Assembly.

In this regard, Leopoldo López, founding leader of Voluntad Popular, repudiated his actions.
