Court orders bail for ex-Pakistan prime minister

One day after Pakistan’s Supreme Court ruled that former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s detention was unlawful, the Islamabad High Court granted him bail this afternoon.

A large group of supporters accompanied him in a caravan in Islamabad.

The former prime minister was detained on various corruption charges including illegal land acquisition, prompting thousands of people to take to the streets to demand his release.

It should be noted that the High Court judge ordered Khan’s temporary release, but for only two weeks in which his defense must present evidence that acquits him of the charges.

Upon leaving the court, Khan stated that he was sure that he would be arrested again.
