The Court of Appeals of San Miguel ratified the precautionary measure of preventive detention for the suspended official of the Investigative Police (PDI) Leonel Contreras, charged with the death of the institution’s deputy inspector, Valeria Vivanco.
Contreras’s lawyer, the public criminal defender Juan Pablo GomezHe pointed out that the hearing was carried out by an appeal against the precautionary preventive detention, decreed on Friday, November 5, by the 12th Guarantee Court of Santiago.
“There is no investigation that is finished, it has been an investigation that has had errors in the past, and they demand greater certainty regarding the conclusions that are intended to be drawn from each hypothesis,” said Gómez. Radio Bío Bío.

The case
Vivanco died on June 13, in the middle of an operation in La Granja. The procedure – in which PDI officials followed a car, manned by two people, with suspicions of being related to a homicide – the deputy inspector was shot.
At the site of the event, a 9-millimeter bullet with biological remains was found: the projectile would have come from a Jericho-brand weapon, used by PDI personnel. The discovery prompted the institution to suspend three officials, who accompanied Valeria. Contreras, one of the companions, was arrested on Thursday, November 4, for formalization.
In the first instance, the two occupants of the car were arrested: Miguel Caniupán, 19 years old and a 17-year-old teenager; both formalized and deprived of liberty. However, the case turned upside down with the findings at the event site.
