The director of the INOF was arrested after a search on October 17 where 55 cell phones were seized. 30 prisoners were transferred to the Aragua Judicial Confinement Center, better known as the Tocorón prison. Relatives of the detainees reported that the officials threw food and personal hygiene items at them during the search.
The Third Court of Control of the Criminal Judicial Circuit of the state of Miranda, based in Los Teques, issued a custodial measure against the director of the National Institute of Women’s Guidance (INOF), Ahiza Maestre Betancourt, for the alleged crimes of delay or omission aggravated functions and illegal introduction of cell phones in this prison.
This was confirmed by the NGO A Window to Freedom in a press release. The director of the INOF was arrested on October 18, after a search carried out the day before by officials from the Ministry of the Penitentiary Service and the Bolivarian National Police (PNB).
In the search, 55 cell phones owned by the detainees were seized with the alleged consent of Maestre, who had held this position since 2022, replacing Anyi Martínez, who was dismissed for acts of corruption and cruel treatment against the prisoners.

Ahiza Maestre Betancourt was presented to the court on October 20 by the 25th prosecutor of the Public Ministry. She is detained at a PNB headquarters in Los Teques.
