Court acquitted 16 accused of the “front line” for interruption of free transit during social outbreak

The Fourth Oran Criminal Court of Santiago acquitted 16 people accused of being part of the “front line” accused of interrupting free transit amid the riots in March 2020, in the context of the social outbreak. However, he only convicted five of them of throwing blunt objects.

The defendants were accused of events that occurred on Calle Ramón Corvalán with Carabineros de Chile, in the commune of Santiago.

“After five weeks of oral proceedings, the verdict was released that acquitted all of the defendants of the crime of placing barricades or interruption of vehicular traffic and condemned five of those represented by the Public Criminal Defender for the crime of throwing forceful,” said attorney Arturo Vergara.

“Of the 11 defended by the Public Defender’s Office, only five were convicted of this crime, so we are awaiting the reading of the sentence that is set for June 21, in order to study it and analyze the filing of pertinent procedural resources”, indicated the jurist.

“Even so, the Public Criminal Defense Office confirms its conviction of the innocence of our neighbors,” he added.

In this way, the North Central Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office seeks a maximum of 541 days in prison for those involved, added to the suspension of public office charges during the duration of the sentence.
