The National Program of Postgraduate Scholarships Abroad “Don Carlos Antonio López” (BECAL), dependent on the Ministry of Finance, urges those interested to find out who can apply for the next calls for scholarships, taking into account what the requirements are and the modalities for them.
In this regard, the basic and general requirements state that all Paraguayans or naturalized foreigners can apply, without age limit, who have a graduate or postgraduate degree and have all the corresponding documentation. For undergraduate mobility scholarships, those university students who have passed at least 50% of the curriculum of their career and have a minimum average of 3 on a 5 scale are eligible for scholarships.
In addition to these basic requirements to apply for the Scholarship Program, you must take into account the minimum modalities and requirements. For the calls for the Self-managed Modality, the applicant must have an admission letter from one of the best universities in the world. The ranking of the universities is important at this point, because according to the type of programs they must be among the 50, 100 or 300 best ranked in one of the 3 rankings used for master’s degrees or 4 used for doctorates.
For calls for the Assisted Modality, the application is made through the Specialized Agencies with which BECAL has signed agreements.
The BECAL Program is characterized by carrying out public, transparent and competitive processes. Before applying, it is very important to read and understand all the requirements and details of the process, which are clearly explained in the Guide to the Bases and Conditions of the Call to which you want to apply. Once it has been read and understood, the applicant must accept it.
Scholarship holders who carry out their studies abroad with financing from sources of the Paraguayan State, through the Fund for Excellence in Education and Research (FEEI), must contractually commit to work in the country, after completing their studies, by a period of at least 5 (five) years, after completing the study program.
The priority areas of the Scholarship Program are for the strengthening of Research in Science and Technology (S&T); of Innovation and Education.
Applicants who have not been selected for the scholarship may reapply for any other Program contest. It is important to remember that the BECAL Program directs its policy towards academic excellence through the training of advanced human capital in the best universities in the world, mainly for Master’s, Doctorate, and Postdoctoral degrees.
