MADRID, Spain.- The couple of young Cuban actors Diany Zerquera and Carlos Alberto Méndez, who recently arrived in Miami, offered details about their departure from Cuba and arrival in the United States.
As they told in the YouTube program maka’s house, Méndez arrived in the northern country following the usual route migratory Central America from Nicaragua. While Zerquera did it from Mexico, because although she is a Spanish citizen, she had her ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) cancelled.
During the interview, conducted by the actress María Karla Rivero, daughter of the also well-known actress Coralita Veloz, the couple stated that fortunately the journey was calm and they did not have any of the problems that many migrants face.
However, Diany Zerquera pointed out: “When I was there, in the real heat, it is such a bad feeling that you say: ‘look what one has to do, why do I have to go through this work to get to a place, when there is thousands of people flying in planes.’”
The young people decided to leave the Island, in search of a better future, when they had been in a relationship for nine months. “Not because we don’t love Cuba, because we don’t love our country, because we don’t really enjoy the people, the family, everything, but because Cuba reached the point where we were both completely convinced that there was no longer room for us, it was uninhabitable for people like us, as many people probably feel”, commented Carlos Alberto.
Diany Zerquera gained popularity on the island for her leading role in the soap opera First grade, directed by Rudy Mora and premiered last December on Cuban television. She was also part of the cast of the telenovelas Delivery and Look again.
While Carlos Alberto Méndez intervened in the novels Firelands, Beyond the Boundary and the feature film Bitter Coffee.
