Santo Domingo.-With a trajectory that suggests that this Sunday the country would be under the effects of tropical storm Fiona, several emergency agencies are already preparing to prevent the impact on the territory.
In this sense, the National Meteorological Office (Onamet) issued its early warning for possible tropical storm conditions from La Romana to Cabo Engaño and from Cabo Engaño to Cabrera.
The Onamet strictly monitors the tropical storm, which is located about 685 km east of the Leeward Islands (Lesser Antilles). Its maximum sustained winds are at 95 kilometers per hour, with higher gusts.
Its current movement is to the west at about 22 kilometers. Slight changes in its intensity are forecast in the coming days as it approaches the vicinity of the Dominican Republic.
Taking into consideration the development and evolution of storm Fiona, the Emergency Operations Center (COE) issued a green alert for four provinces.
This was indicated by its director Juan Manuel Méndez, who specified that the areas on alert are Samaná, La Romana, La Altagracia and María Trinidad Sánchez.
Méndez pointed out that they activated their contingency plan for hurricanes, which includes several response agencies such as Public Health, Civil Defense, Public Works, among others.
Active health plan for possible storm passage
Prevention. Faced with the possible passage of tropical storm Fiona through Dominican territory, the Ministry of Public Health yesterday activated the contingency plan with which they seek to reduce the impact it could cause in the nation.
The entity instructs the Provincial Directorates and Health Areas on urgent measures in shelters and hospitals; urges the population to take precautionary measures in their homes and stay informed of the corresponding agencies.
The plan will respond with the provision of supplies such as masks, medicines, gel, among others.
