The PAN member highlighted councilor Claudia Zavala, who presented an alternative proposal that would have distributed the proportional representation seats without a distortion such as the one that – it is alleged – allowed Morena and its allies an overrepresentation that left the opposition underrepresented.
Zavala “has shown that it is possible to make a more intelligent, and above all, complete, reading of the Constitution. These are the decisions that create or destroy the electoral authority in Mexico,” warned Cortés Mendoza.
“Thank you for defending the Constitution and the votes of Mexicans. In times of authoritarianism, defending democracy is an act of bravery,” wrote Gálvez Ruiz.
Gálvez and Chertorivski extended their congratulations to four councillors, including Councillor Dania Ravel, whose vote was not against, but in favour of the approved allocation, with a total of eight votes.
Those who voted against this distribution of plurinominal seats that gave Morena a super group were councilors Zavala, Martín Faz and Jaime Rivera.
Threatening impeachment
The position expressed yesterday by the representative of the cherry party before the National Electoral Institute INE, Sergio Gutiérrez Luna, who hinted that they could file a political lawsuit against the councilors who voted against Morena and its allies obtaining 364 Federal Deputies.
Gutiérrez recalled the exact words issued in 2021 by Councilor Zavala and Councilor Martín Faz, both in favor of the criteria by which seats were distributed in that year, the same sense that was used yesterday Friday in the allocation of spaces in the Chamber of Deputies and after that he threatened to proceed with the change of position on this occasion.
“What are you going to say about this, Counselor Faz? Did you back down? Why did you change your mind about something you said and that I just read to you? That is called inconsistency. And I wonder, and we will have to analyze, if this attitude does not update, returning to the Constitution, the hypothesis of article 110, impeachment,” he said.
The PT deputy and legislative counselor, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, had to reduce the pressure, expressing his respect for the sense of the counselors’ vote: “I think there was unnecessary rudeness on the part of my colleague Sergio Gutiérrez, because we can accuse them of inconsistency, but we are not going to proceed against any of them.”
However, the councillors who voted in favour of the allocation of legislators were also questioned for their position.
The representative of the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD) and leader of the National Civic Front, Guadalupe Acosta Naranjo, accused them on social media: “No, they are not heroes or stoics, they are submissive to power.”
“Their frivolity and opportunism led them to seek an alibi that would allow them to try to hide the nature of their decision. They defrauded the vote, they defrauded the constitutional mandate. We will go to court, but the material that the majority is made of is similar to that of these 7,” he lamented.
