Through a letter, the Council for Self-Regulation and Advertising Ethics (Conar) reported that it accepted for processing the complaint filed by deputy Luis Cuello (PC), together with other members of the Lower House, at the beginning of December, about misleading advertising. in the “I want to choose” campaign of the AFP Association and which refers to the government’s pension reform.
Regarding the receipt of the complaint, Deputy Cuello pointed out that “this resolution shows that the AFPs resort to deception to attack a reform that benefits millions of Chileans.” of Deputies and Deputies – summoned the AFP Association to “suspend this illegitimate campaign, financed with the profits obtained thanks to the work of the contributors”.
In the complaint – which was also supported by deputies Héctor Ulloa (Ind.-PPD), Juan Santana (PS), Andrés Giordano (Ind.) and deputy Francisca Bello (CS) – it was argued that the campaign “I want to choose ” of the AFP Association leads to “deception” and would not be “true” when asking: “In the new pension system, can I choose who I give my contributions to or will it be an obligation that I pass them on only to the State?”since, for parliamentarians, this reform would establish for “the first time the possibility of choosing whether individual savings contributions are invested by a private entity or by a public entity”.
In addition, and in response to this requirement, Conar sent a letter yesterday to the AFP Association where it was informed that “the claim has been admitted for processing because it considers that it refers to a matter related to advertising ethics and presents sufficient merits for this”, for which the aforementioned trade union organization must present its “observations” or “disclaimers” within the period of “three business days”.
It is worth mentioning that Conar is a corporation open to all consumers and companies so that they can present their complaints for advertising. It is a non-profit corporation, whose main objective is to self-regulate commercial activity based on ethics and good practices, in order to comply with the principles and standards enshrined in the Chilean Code of Advertising Ethics, an instrument that is used to promote proper advertising.
