The Costa Rican Public Force reported yesterday, January 31, that they are searching for the Nicaraguan Maickol Urrutia Barrientos, accused of murdering his three-year-old stepson, who died in a hospital in Alajuela.
Urrutia would have fled to Nicaragua after his stepson died from injuries to his ribs and arm, in addition to injuries to his private parts. The minor’s mother, Luisa Rodríguez Méndez, 35, originally from Nicaragua, is being held after a criminal court in Alajuela ordered a six-month preventive detention.

The woman was captured in her home located on La Sabanilla hill. Apparently when police arrested her, Maickol was not at the scene. The child would have died last Saturday, January 28, when he arrived at the San Rafael de Alajuela hospital.
In the first month of 2023, three murders of Nicaraguan citizens residing in Costa Rica were recorded. They were all murdered on Monday, January 9. María Auxiliadora López, allegedly murdered by a man who shot her when she was with other friends at the El Palenque bar, located in Los Chiles, Alajuela province.
That same night, 46-year-old María de los Ángeles Larios Sánchez was assassinated. The event was recorded on Manuel Antonio beach, located in Quepo, Puntarenas Costa Rica.
The third victim is identified as Evelyn de Fátima González Zeledón. The event was recorded in a place known as Guararí, in San Francisco de Heredia, Costa Rica.
According to the Teletica television outlet, the woman may have been shot in the head “by mistake” when she was with a man, apparently her partner.
