Carolina Cosse, vice presidential candidate for the Frente Amplio, went to vote at the Latin American College. She was accompanied by close figures such as María Inés Obaldía, Florencia Astori and Silvia Nane, part of a tradition that she herself considers her personal cabal. Before the press, Cosse stated: “Tomorrow, wherever we are, you will find us working together to improve Uruguay.”
Election day, full of emotions for Cosse, began with a call to his father. She confessed to feeling nervous and moved, especially after sharing the anguish of her father, who could not participate in the voting. Despite the emotions of the moment, his father expressed a wish full of hope: “hopefully for Uruguayans this will be a day among days.”
Reflections on democracy and values
During his statements, Cosse stressed the importance of the future government working for democracy, progress and maintaining inalienable principles. He emphasized that election day is crucial because “no one is more than anyone else,” since at the polls, all votes have the same weight and significance.
According to Cosse, the act of choosing the future of the country together is a reminder of the need to care for and defend the country, something he believes is achieved by “taking care of it.” In this sense, he reiterated his position on “defending the country” not only nationally, but also on the international stage, based on the seriousness and transcendence of the interests of all Uruguayans above individual political affinity.
Importance of national unity
Cosse emphasized that he does not perceive a divided Uruguay. He stated that beyond political affiliations, Uruguayans share essential elements such as tradition, culture and identity. These common values are, for her, the cornerstone that holds the country together.
The candidate expressed her admiration for the officials at the polling stations, whose work is essential during elections, and expressed her gratitude to the compatriots who traveled from abroad to vote. For Cosse, this mobilization reaffirms the national civic movement. “How the country moves,” was his comment on the voting act.
Carolina Cosse also recalled an early dialogue with her running mate, Yamandú Orsi, about the campaign and the energy of citizen participation. He described the campaign as equally distributed both in the territory and in individual participation, completing it with a comment about the support he felt throughout the electoral process.
