Teams from the Departmental Coexistence Service, Transit and Cleaning divisions, Building Security and the Emergency Coordination Center (Cecoed) of the Municipality of Montevideo are collaborating with the national authorities in the care and response to the event that occurred on Friday, July 22 in a building of Villa Biarritz.
With a total of more than 100 departmental officials, they carry out logistics, cleaning, inspection and support tasks in the area, which was fenced off for security reasons. In this guideline, the mayor of Montevideo, Carolina Cosse, reported that from the commune they will cooperate “in everything that is necessary” given this “moment of anguish for the neighborhood.”

The Intendancy established the following traffic cuts:
- Montero from Ellauri
- Access streets to the Villa Biarritz park
- Avenida 21 de Septiembre and Ellauri (in the direction of the boulevard)
In addition, inspectors are facilitating vehicular traffic. Citizens are urged not to circulate there.
Regarding cleaning, manual tasks and sweepers are being carried out on sidewalks, streets and in the Villa Biarritz park area outside the security cordon established by the authorities, to remove debris, glass, metal and some concrete remains.
They also ordered that the traditional fair, held every Saturday at Villa Biarritz, be suspended and moved to Parque Rodó.
“Villa Biarritz is a public space for the enjoyment and recreation of families and citizens. It must be in adequate conditions so as not to cause any injury to those who visit it. We will be working until the end of the day and on Saturday the 23rd we are going to carry out a second cleaning operation in detail, to avoid any sharp material,” said the director of the Cleaning Division, Ignacio Lorenzo.
