The mayor of Montevideo, Caroline Cosseis in Buenos Aires and took advantage of his stay to talk to the radio program hosted by the Uruguayan journalist Victor Hugo Moraleswhich is transmitted by AM750. In the interview, Cosse reiterated his concern about the drought and criticized the government for the “lack of transparency”.
“We are experiencing a water crisis like we have never experienced before. We would never have imagined this“, pointed out the departmental hierarch who reiterated that from the Intendancy they began to measure the water points to determine their salinity. “We should have acted and, above all, informed. Because the first and only ones that are informing the population of the results of the water analysis is the Municipality of Montevideo”.
“We found out about the problem through the tap (the water was saltier than normal). So, we went out to measure the quality of the water and published it. The national government did not publish. The lack of transparency has nothing to do with climate change. But with the face of a crisis, of reality,” he asserted.
“Cut budget” and “pseudo-expert committee” for social security reform
For his part, Cosse also criticized the actions of the national government regarding the budget for public investment. “They have to do with lower public investment, public companies against the wall, the university with a budget cut by hundreds of millions of dollars. The same university that trained the scientists who made up the advisory team during the pandemic,” he noted.
In turn, he treated those who made up the group that worked on the pension reform as “pseudo-experts”. “It is a reform of the pension system, not of social security. And it is done by setting up a pseudo committee of experts in which, in reality, the recommendations are crooked and the future of work is not taken into account,” she shot.
“If you are putting together a reform of social security, the least you have to do is what people are going to work. And that implies thinking about the future of work, of education. Having a direction, which is what we do not have. This is going to affect the majority of workers,” he said.
