The management of the mayor of Montevideo, Carolina Cosse, has an approval of 50% of the citizens, according to a new opinion poll by the consulting firm Cifra revealed this weekend by the newspaper The Observerin which a “positive balance for the mayor is highlighted and she retains almost as much approval as votes brought her to office.”
The Frente Amplio mayor enjoys great support both in the central areas and on the outskirts of the city, while in the coastal areas – which have neighborhoods such as Punta Carretas or Pocitos – she has less approval.
“Two years after being elected, the approval of her management is just a little below what her vote was in September 2020,” adds Cifra’s analysis.
“It is interesting in this group (capital opposition voters) that a fifth have neutral judgments, which for a candidate who did not vote, has a more favorable tone,” adds the director of Cifra.

In two years in charge of the capital’s mayor, Cosse lost 12 points, but remains above 50%, while disapproval barely climbed 2 points. According to the consultant, “the increase in disapproval and low approval are normal movements of governments as their management progresses.”
The survey was carried out between October 20 and 31, 2022, among 350 people residing in Montevideo, using landlines and cell phones, and following a random methodology stratified by regions and areas of Montevideo.
Sex and age quotas were also followed according to their prevalence in the national population.
