The mayor of Montevideo, Carolina Cosse, announced that she will arrow the September 21st street in Montevideo. The works, which will begin in 2023 after the construction permit, include the renovation of Francisco Solano Antuña street, which is parallel to that avenue.
The street, which has an extension of 20 blocks, will be arrowed in the direction of the boulevard, said the mayor, and justified that it is a road “with congestion problems”.
The Municipality of Montevideo detected that along this street there is a “high vehicular, pedestrian and public transport demand”, added to a “difficulty for the crossing of vehicles and pedestrians” and “interference with left turns and maneuvers of parking”.

In addition, a traffic light will be placed on the boulevard, it was announced. With all these improvements, it is expected to reduce travel times on this street by 35%, the commune points out in a presentation that was made to residents of the area.
The change is part of a project to expedite transit in Montevideo, which covers the Pocitos, Punta Carretas, Buceo and Malvín neighborhoods. The total inversion It amounts to $4 millionand the works are expected to be ready before the first half of 2023.
Transit times, added Cosse, will decrease between 30% and 45%. And it will expedite the times of collective transport, as expected.
In 2023 it will also be implemented artificial intelligence in “various traffic lights”, changes that will be announced in time by the commune, said the mayor. In turn, fines will be digitized in the event that citizens park in “prohibited places.” A mechanism will be installed at the site for the automatic fine.
