President Laurentino Cortizo received on Tuesday the proposals of the Bicentennial Pact “Closing Gaps”, a document that should mark the beginning to meet the needs of the Panamanian population.
During a year, more than 186 thousand proposals were collected, collected by the Ágora platform, where citizens from different regions contributed their ideas.
Paulina Franceschi, national executive coordinator of the Bicentennial Pact, during her speech, said that the challenge is to transform these proposals into concrete results. “This is the true science of the principle of equality,” he added.
Followed by Franceschi, the Panamanian president received the official report from Melva Lowe de Goodin, Gerardo Berroa, César Tribaldos and Sara Omi, members of the Advisory Council of the Bicentennial Pact.
“Today with great satisfaction I receive the final report of the Bicentennial Pact with the 1,787 national agreements reached. This pact pays tribute to the decisive events of November 1821, when a group of Panamanians acted with courage to achieve the independence of Panama from Spain. Now, 200 years later without foreign occupation, owners of the Canal and with full sovereignty, the historical legacy of 1821 tells us that the construction of the Nation is a shared, permanent responsibility, a responsibility of all ”, he expressed.
He stressed that this Pact will go beyond his government, it is a pact that, due to its magnitude, demands the commitment not only of governments, but also of political parties, universities, unions, companies, unions, churches and organized society.
“Our government will fulfill its part, making binding some agreements of the Pact that can be executed during our administration, and I trust, due to the magnitude of this social pact, that the following governments will continue executing what corresponds,” Cortizo declared.
In the middle of his words, the president announced the installation, as of December, of the high-level Commission for the follow-up of the agreements of the Bicentennial Pact, which will be made up of some members of the advisory council, independent personalities and organized society. .
He also announced the creation of the Development Planning Institute, on January 2, which is a commitment of the Uniting Forces Plan.
