Cortizo invites Fedefarma to develop molecular drug research in Panama

The President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo, and the Vice President and Minister of the Presidency, José Gabriel Carrizo, held a lunch in the Los Tamarindos Room of the Presidential Palace with representatives of the Central American and Caribbean Federation of Pharmaceutical Laboratories (FEDEFARMA).

During the meeting, the head of the Executive presented a proposal for the formation of a work group made up of the Ministry of Health (Minsa), the Social Security Fund (CSS), the Ministry of the Presidency and Fedefarma, with the aim of reducing the time for the elaboration of innovative molecules.

Cortizo Cohen told them that the City of Health will have a space dedicated to the development of scientific research, an area that he made available to FEDEFARMA for the development of molecular drug research. “Panama is available for any laboratory that wants to participate to do so,” said the president.

He also asked them to analyze the possibility of equating the prices of some of the most widely used drugs in the country with Colombia. “There are drugs with which an effort can be made and compared, and that can save lives, especially in areas of difficult access,” said the president.
