Cortizo gives support to the private company and warns that they will not allow closures that threaten public order

The President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, on the afternoon of this Tuesday, July 26, gave a boost to the private company, while calling on the facilitators to include anyone who wants to be at the single table of the dialogue, installed in the province of Coclé, in Penonomé.

Through a message to the nation, after almost a month of closures and demonstrations at the national level, the president said that they will not allow street closures, as he warned that the authorities will apply the sanctions contemplated in the law.

“The closures of streets and highways affect us all, put the health and life of Panamanians at risk, increase the cost of food and threaten employment; The national government respects the right to demonstrate as established by our political constitution,” he said, explaining that although demonstrations are allowed, disturbances of public order or violation of the rights of third parties will not be tolerated, much less acts of vandalism, delinquency that threaten the safety and life of citizens.

Cortizo Cohen reported that in the morning he met with business associations and in the afternoon, he will have a meeting with the associations of agricultural and agro-industrial producers, to guarantee that none of the decisions made by the Government will affect national production.

The meetings with the business associations include representatives of the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama, the National Council of Private Enterprise, the Union of Industrialists of Panama, the Panamanian Chamber of Construction and the Association of Business Executives, among others.

The Chief Executive stressed that dialogue “is the best formula for understanding each other, solving our problems and for us all to contribute to the social peace that characterizes us.”

Maintaining his open-door policy with all social sectors, Cortizo Cohen indicated that “those sectors of society that have expressed their interest in participating in the Single Table of Dialogue for Panama should join that table as soon as possible, so that in this great national effort all Panamanians are represented”.

Therefore, he appealed to the facilitating team of the Dialogue for Panama to seek the incorporation of other productive groups to find, together, the appropriate paths and seek the common good “because this is a responsibility of all Panamanians.”

“We all have to contribute to the stability that the country needs and of course to its economic recovery. No one should be excluded”, concluded President Cortizo Cohen.
