Corteva joins forces with Pairwise to accelerate agricultural gene-editing solutions

Corteva, Inc., a leader in agricultural technology, announced a strategic collaboration with Pairwise, a innovative company in genetic editing applied to food and agriculture.

According to the companies, This agreement aims to accelerate the implementation of advanced solutions that will benefit both the environment and consumers.

Gene editing, which uses plant DNA to make precise improvements, offers farmers crucial tools to meet the challenges of food production, especially in the context of climate change.

By virtue of this collaboration, Corteva will invest US$25 million in Pairwise through its new investment platform, Corteva Catalyst, focused on access to agricultural innovations. In addition to the investment, both companies have created a joint venture to accelerate the delivery of advanced gene editing technologies.

This alliance seeks to improve the yield of crops destined for the production of food, fuel and fiber, while addressing the adverse effects of climate change. The agreement, which is for a period of five years, will allow Corteva and Pairwise to combine their capabilities in gene editing to develop products that are more resistant to extreme weather events.

Gene editing is a transformative technology that promotes climate resilience in agriculture and increases the productivity needed to feed the world’s growing population.“said Sam Eathington, Corteva’s global head of technology and digitalization.

For his part, Tom Adams, CEO and co-founder of Pairwise, highlighted that this collaboration seeks to revolutionize agriculture through crops that are more adapted to climate change, that offer greater nutritional value and economic benefits for producers.

Pairwise’s Fulcrum platform, which uses proprietary gene editing tools, allows for precise adjustments to plant characteristics, accelerating the development of new varieties.
