Cortea urges to legislate for Law of Use of Force

The Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) refused to give an extension to the Chamber of Deputies to amend the National Law on the Use of Force.

The Legislative power had the obligation to establish in the first session of 2022, which began in February and ended last April, the purpose of the use of force, as well as its subjection to the principles of rationality and opportunity, after a resolution of the SCJN.

There is no reason to grant an extension of the term for compliance with the sentence issued in the present matter, since the term was clearly specified by the Full Court of the Supreme Court,” the agreement states.

The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Sergio Gutiérrez Luna, sent a letter to the highest court in recent days requesting an extension. However, the Court rejected the request, arguing that the “term was clearly specified” in the sixth point of the ruling.

For this reason, the Superama Court of Justice granted 10 business days to the deputies to comply with the ruling and send a certified copy of the records that prove the acts that have been carried out to achieve compliance with the ruling. In case of omission, a fine will be imposed.
