Santo Domingo.- The organization Citizen Participation, Dominican chapter of Transparency International, stated that, in order to commemorate this Monday the International Day of Fight against the Corruption“this scourge continues to be one of the biggest obstacles” to development and Justice in the country.
In the Dominican Republic we have seen a slight improvement in the Corruption Perception Index of Transparency International, going from 28 to 31 between 2021 and 2023.
However, there is still a long way to go way to go to guarantee strong institutions, effective justice and true accountability.

On his side, the Justice and Transparency Foundation (FJT) described as deplorable and worrying the corruption scandals that have emerged in the media in relation to the Christmas bonus.
He also condemned the “festival” of million-dollar rental contracts, such as the cases of the Government Office of Information and Communication Technologies (OGTIC)the General Directorate of Passports, Ministry of Industry and Commercethe Directorate of Out-of-hospital Emergency Care Services (DAEH), National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant)the electricity distributors and the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications.

Maximum Kings Footwearexecutive vice president of the Foundation, said in a note that the Dominican people are being “dismembered” and “stripped” of their most precious assets.
The foundation urged all social sectors not to be tolerant or give up on the demands made on the political class and public authorities, in pursuit of higher levels of transparency and compliance with laws.
