The movement Citizen revolution (RC), led by former President Rafael Correa (2007-2017) achieved a “historic victory” in the sectional elections last Sunday in Ecuador. It was made with the prefectures of nine provinces and with more than sixty mayors.
After describing the results as “historic”, the RC said in a statement: “They wanted to kill us but they did not realize that we were millions of seeds.”
“After more than six years of persecution, taking away the legal status of our political organization, unjustly imprisoning our compañeros and forcing others to live in exile, in these 2023 sectional elections we show that we are the main and greatest political force in the Ecuador”, he noted, and stressed that they are “more alive than ever”.
He noted that the RC won the prefectures in nine provinces of the country, including the three most populous, and obtained more than 60 mayors, including the cities of Quito and Guayaquil. As well as dozens of councils and parish councils throughout the country.
A great national agreement goes through advancing the elections. We must overcome the simplicity that democracy means waiting for elections every four years.
Lasso is a great FRAUD, complicit in the destruction of the Homeland, and constitutionally must be removed.#TheMandateIsRevoked https://t.co/9oG1s47w8i— Rafael Correa (@MashiRafael) February 7, 2023
“It is a historic victory. We put an end to the hegemony of the right in (the province of) Guayas. A new era begins to recover Ecuador from the territories, together with the people who know that before we were better! ”, He pointed out.
Referendum
With more than 97% of the acts processed, the “No” is consolidated in the referendum proposed by the Ecuadorian president, Guillermo Lasso, who sought to reform the Constitution in matters of security, democracy, institutions and the environment.
“Our people, wise and pleasant. People who do not eat story said NO in the eight questions to the Government of Lasso. He said NO to that crafty consultation that does not solve the problems of insecurity, unemployment, poverty, “says the RC statement.
And he assures that “this is a victory for our people, for our militancy, who never believed in the lies, who responded to hate with love, who never lost hope of rebuilding a safe Ecuador, with health services and public education of quality, decent work, and development for the most vulnerable”.
The RC dedicated its victory at the polls to all those who never stopped believing in its political project. “This is just the beginning to recover the Homeland. Our cinnamon-colored Homeland that is outraged by hunger, inequality and the abuses of neoliberal governments ”, ends the letter.
More than 13 million Ecuadorians were called to the polls on Sunday, February 5, to elect sectional authorities, including 23 provincial prefects, 221 mayors and more than a thousand councilors and members throughout the country.
